This language practice and social group — which was formed in January 1995 by Mynda Grimaldi-Ohman — is for German-speaking Americans and native German speakers. The atmosphere is geared at young adults, and most K&Q members are in their 20s or 30s. Kreuz und Quer gives you the chance to use the German you struggled to learn in school or are longing to hear and use, and there are a number of native speakers in the group who enjoy the atmosphere and speaking their native tongue. "K&Q" is coordinated by volunteers of the Germanic-American Institute (GAI). GAI membership is not required to participate in Kreuz & Quer. If at some point you decide to help out the organization which supports Kreuz & Quer, we won't stop you. We meet four times a month, on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th; all meetings include German conversation. Twice a month at a bar or restaurant; in Minneapolis on the 7th, in Saint Paul on the 21th. On the 14th of every month, we get together for conversation and a German-language movie in the Ratskeller at GAI (under the influence). Some movies are subtitled. Finally, on the 28th of a month, we gather for Spieleabend at GAI, playing German games. The mood is friendly, and everyone helps each other out with the language (und wir sagen alle «Du» zueinander! ). The group sometimes plans spontaneous get-togethers and other events. The schedule of events is on this web site and is updated regularly. Disclaimer: This Kreuz und Quer group is unrelated to religious groups of the same name in Germany and Austria and does not, in general, deal with questions of faith. However, please have faith in your German language abilities and join our friendly conversation assembly some time. For further information please contact us:
